A Preview of Zines to Come...
It's really Neil's baby but the collaboration is coming along. Here's a preview from my contributions:
Antique Mall Rat
I found out about this place from hearing it mentioned on the radio one day when I was in Newmarket bumming around the thrift shops there. They were at the antiques shop doing a live-to-air broadcast because there was also a car show going on there. Without anything else to do that night I headed over. I thought it was a pretty neat antique "mall" so I brought my parents there this past weekend since I knew they'd appreciate it. It's a pretty big building with booths that different dealers have their stuff in so the contents aren't limited to the tastes of one dealer which was a nice touch. Like any good store of its ilk, you could spend hours in there and stuff is piled up all over the place. If you want to check it out, it's approximately here. I didn't grab a shot of the sign, but here is a picture snagged from Google Street View:

Here are a few pictures of some interesting stuff I came across in the store:
I ended up picking up this Gillette safety razor. I'm looking forward to cleaning it up, getting some blades and putting it back into service.

The White Buffalo (1977)

I really like the art of 1970s movie posters because there is a quality to the illustration that just isn't seen in modern movie posters which carries with it an undeniable cool. After seeing this poster about 6 months ago, I knew I needed to see it, based solely on the poster, the bonus being Charles Bronson's appearance. As I started to dig more into the movie, I found out that beyond a great movie poster, it also had a perfectly anachronistic plot: Wild Bill Hickock and Crazy Horse join forces to hunt down a great white buffalo. I was hooked.
I tracked the movie down and held off on watching it for a few weeks, salivating in anticipation. Anyways, I got around to watching it, it was alright. I mean there weren't a lot of the kind of visuals one expects from a western, not too many great expansive shots of the countryside. There were a few cool gunfights, a few interesting side plots that end up getting tied up at the end and Charles Bronson being perfectly Charles Bronson-y. The buffalo was a bit of a disappointment, but I guess it WAS made in 1977. It's a quick watch at around 90 minutes as well. I'd give it a pretty solid 75/100, 95/100 for the movie poster on its own.
I was expecting to get a lot of cool screenshots from this movie but it didn't really happen like that. Here are the highlights:

Bonus GIF of Bronson I made with the movie.
